Mr. Ray F. Benton

Mr. Ray F. Benton

Edgefield, S.C. — Entered into rest Thursday, March 27, 2008, Mr. Ray F. Benton, 61, of Edgefield, S.C., beloved husband of Mr. Patsy Jennings Benton and son of the late Arlin Murtis and Lucy Mae Hendrickson Benton.

Born in Paragould, he was a member of the Treasurer of Bible Baptist Church, Edgefield, S.C. He retired from Kimberly-Clark after thirty-three years of service. An avid outdoorsman, Ray loved to camp, fish and hunt. He was also an avid Midland Valley Mustangs fan.

In addition to his wife, family members include, a daughter, Shiray Ready, (Dean) Stiefeltown, S.C.; sons, Murtis Benton (Lee) and Channing Benton, both of Edgefield; brothers, the late William “Bill” Benton and James Benton, (Jean) Hondo, Texas; sisters, Melvia Benton, Colopaxi, Colo., and Barbara King, Tallahassee, Fla.; sister-in-law, Lavon Benton, and grandchildren, Carla Ready, Nick Ready, Hasting Ready, Tatelyn Rae Benton, and a special granddaughter, Deann Ready. His nieces and nephews were very special to him.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Gloverville First Baptist Church, Gloverville, S.C., with Revs. Alan Tillman and Carl Hayes officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, S.C. Pallbearers will be Travis Wheat, Keith Taylor, Darryl McElhaney, Jerry Hightower, Jeremy Holsonback and Mark Gregory. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Hancock, Adam Buchanan, Nick Brown, Tyler Gregory, Evan Moore, Conlee Stone, Taylor Stone and Bret Goodwin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bible Baptist Church Building Fund, 370 Greene Rd., Edgefield, SC 29824.


The family will greet friends on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, U.S. Highway 1, Langley, S.C.

Willie Walker Pratt

Funeral services for Willie Walker Pratt, 82, of Rector will be March 31, at 10 a.m. Mitchell Chapel in Rector. Kim Bridges officiating. Burial Woodland Height Cemetery.

Mr. Pratt died on March 27, 2008, at Kennett, Mo.

Daniel B. Rusak

Daniel B. Rusak, 80, of Paragould died  Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at the NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born Nov. 6, 1927, in Streator, Ill. the son of the late John and Barbara Rusak. Daniel was a World War II, Marine veteran. He was retired from Phillips County Community College as Dean of Students and was formerly the Stanford School Superintendent.  He was of Catholic faith.

Survivors include his wife, Berta Gramling Rusak of the home; one son, Danny Rusak of Dixie, Idaho; one daughter, Barbara Frank of Mansfield, Ohio; sister, Lucille Weber of Ransom, Ill. and three grandchildren, David Roach of Jonesboro, and Sarah Roach and Matthew Rusak of Paragould.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Deacon Rex Bouldin officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m., Sunday at Heath Funeral Home.

Gloria Diana Jarrett

Gloria Diana Jarrett, 70, of Paragould died Thursday in Little Rock at UAMS. She was born Nov. 2, 1937, in Greene County, Ark. She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence M. Blake; parents, Vernon “Skeet” and Orene Woods Rogers, and sister, Sandra McChristian. She was a 1956 graduate of Paragould High School, sold propane at IFH, Thermogas and Brewer Brothers, and was of Baptist belief. Survivors include her beloved husband, Bill Jarrett, of the home; sons, Scott Gatlin and friend, Kim Smith and Tim and Gina Jarrett, all of Paragould; sister, Billie Jean Nicholson of Rogers; grandchildren, Jamie Gatlin of Atlanta, Ga., Ashley Gray of Brookland, Natalie Gatlin of Paragould and Caroline Jarrett of Paragould; great-grandchild, Isaac Gatlin and several friends and especially the Norfolk Lake Bunch. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Sunday at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Jim Fowler officiating. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Don Tabor, Rex Ellington, Paul Smith, Davey Joe Jackson, John Malone and Tony Dibble. Honorary Pallbearers are Steve Babcock and Nippy Mangrum. Larry Lee Scott

Walnut Ridge — Larry Scott, 73, died Friday at his residence. He had lived the past 20 years in Walnut Ridge, coming from the Fontaine Community. An army veteran, he worked for General Electric and also had engaged in farming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Tom Simpson Scott; a son, Timothy Scott; brothers, Caraway, Bill, Thomas and Floyd Scot; a sister, Nora Thompson.

He is survived by daughters, Lisa Cundiff of Wichita, Kan., Janie Davis of Bono and Mary Russell of Cabot; sons, Ronny Scott of Athens, Tenn., John Scott of Cabot, Tom Scott of Little Rock and Patrick Scott of Jonesboro; a sister, Lena Childers of Jonesboro; brothers, Loyde and Ray Scott, both of Walnut Ridge and Joe Scott of Blue Eye, Mo. and a special friend, Martha Gibson of Walnut Ridge.

Graveside Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Lorado Cemetery under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge with Rick Anglin officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Clyde Vernon Hubbart

Clyde Vernon Hubbart 57, left this world on March 26, 2008, at his home in Paragould.  He was born Sept. 7, 1950, in Montgomery, Ala. to Clyde Vernon Hubbart Sr. and Loretta Sullivan Hubbart. He was preceded by his parents and one brother, Mark R. Hubbart.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pam Hubbart of the home; two sons, Gerry K. Hubbart of Conway, Clyde V. Hubbart of Russellville; one daughter, Jenifer L. Williams of Sacramento, Calif.; two step-children, Amanda Prince and Andrew Prince of Paragould and four grandchildren, Layla Jade Hubbart, Conner Elijah Hubbart, Emma Kathryn Williams, and Julia Louise Williams.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Phillips Funeral Home. There will be a funeral service at 2 p.m., today at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Breck Freeman officiating. His body will be laid to rest in Memorial Garden Cemetery in Paragould.
