There’s never a dull moment. Greene County 4-Hers are busier than ever during the summer.

Greene County 4-H extension agent Lance Blythe has watched firsthand as Greene County 4-H won several recent competitions.

“Congratulations to everyone who competed in the State 4-H Show and O’Rama,” said. “You all have performed well and made Greene County 4-H proud.”

Catey Bowers attended the 4-H Horse Show in Benton July 14-16. Bowers entered four competitions and won first place in three of the events.

She scored top honors in pole bending, the stake race and the flag race. The talented Bowers received second place in barrel racing.

“It takes a lot of speed, a very athletic horse and a good rider to place in these contests,” Blythe said.

Several 4-Hers participated in the State O’Rama held at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville July 23-25.

Langston Ashmore received first place for her talk on consumer economics while Rebekha Cate took top honors in her health speech.

Tyler Copeland, Katie Davis, Cody Griffin, Adam Norman, Justin West, Justin West and Holly Harvill placed third in their individual competitions at the State 4-H O’Rama.

The team of Tori Copeland, Katie Davis, Harvill and Cate took second place for their presentation on parliamentary procedures. Langston Ashmore, Tyler Copeland, Blake Davis and Andy Harvill competed together in a livestock judging contest and won fourth place. Blythe said the group competed against more than 20 other teams.

During the State O’Rama, 2008 Greene County Tech graduate Lauren Copeland was awarded the $1,000 John W. White 4-H Scholarship for academics and leadership. She also won a $1,500 4-H scholarship for swine production. Copeland will be attending Arkansas State University in the fall.

Andy Harvill who also graduated with the Greene County Tech class of 2008, received two scholarships at the event as well. Harvill will be attending Eastern Oklahoma State University in the fall.

Coming Events

Greene County 4-H has many programs in August. Among them is the 4-H Cloverbud Day which will be held at Crowley’s Ridge Nature Center Aug. 14.

4-H Teen Leaders will have the opportunity to attend CPR training at Greene County Primary Aug. 23 from 5-9 p.m. at no cost. However, certification is $3.50. 4-Hers should also keep alert of the entry deadlines and events for the Greene County Fair held Sept. 1-6.

For more information about these events or other 4-H projects, call the extension office at 236-6921.
