HARRISON — The youthful play of Yellville-Summit showed up at the wrong time. After the Lady Panthers waltzed their way to the finals of the 3A-North District tournament, they faltered Tuesday evening in the Class 3A state volleyball tournament being played at the Harrison Youth Center to a more experienced Crowley’s Ridge Academy team.
The Lady Panthers fell to Crowley’s Ridge Academy, 25-15, 25-16, 25-15.
In the first set of the match, Jenna Cahoon and Victoria Weaver had a block and a kill respectively to keep the score at 7-7.
Then the Lady Falcons flew off. Senior Katie Howe had a kill and later senior April Sandlin added an ace serve to put Crowley’s Ridge on a 9-2 run.
Cahoon had a tip to end the streak, but Howe put another one down that was followed by a kill by Lindsey Killough to give the Lady Falcons a 19-11 lead.
Sandlin had a block that was followed by a kill. A tip by Rachel Jetton put the set away, then she picked up where she left off in the second set. She served her team to an 8-1 lead as she recorded an ace and Killough had a block.
Evan Goodwin stopped the run with a kill for the Lady Panthers. After she added another spike, Mikayla Cunningham recorded a kill to bring Yellville-Summit to within 11-4.
Later in the set, Ashlyn Abbott had an ace and the Lady Falcons were on top 22-9. Yellville-Summit scored the next seven points before CRA put the game away.
Yellville-Summit battled with CRA in the final set as neither team could build more than a three-point lead early in the game. Neither team could get their offense working as they had hitting and passing errors to account for 16 of the 20 points when the game was tied at 10-10.
A small run with Cassidy Tippet behind the serving line for CRA gave the Paragould school control of the game. After serving two aces, her team held a 16-10 lead.
Kelsie Davenport ended that run with a kill for the Lady Panthers. Cahoon and Goodwin each added a kill to cut the lead to 18-14.
Killough stopped the Yellville-Summit run and after three Lady Panther hitting errors, Howe pushed the Lady Falcons to match point.
Leading Yellville-Summit in hitting was Goodwin with five kills.
Leading CRA was Howe with seven kills and one block. Killough had five kills, four digs and one block; Jetton recorded 10 kills, nine digs, 10 assists and an ace; Sandlin eight blocks, two kills, one block and ace, Tippet two aces, Andrea Williams had six digs and Abbott one ace.
