Lady Falcons drop season opener to Lady Bearcats
Brookland rallied in the second half to defeat Crowley’s Ridge Academy 57-52, spoiling the Lady Falcons’ basketball season opener on Tuesday night.
CRA coach Amy Austin said her team led by five at halftime, but “we lost our legs in the second half” and the Lady Bearcats took advantage, holding CRA to seven points in the final period.
“We missed too many easy shots, but that’s from not playing,” Austin said.
The Lady Falcons played their opener after only one full-squad practice. CRA’s volleyball players joined the team on Friday after the conclusion of their season.
One of those volleyball players, sophomore Lindsey Killough, led CRA with 14 points and Melody Engleman added 11. Ashlyn Abbott scored 9, Andrea Williams 8, Aynsley Broom scored 5, Dustyn Stokes and Savanna Wilkins netted 2 each and Kimberly Clark put in 1 point.
In the junior high game, Brookland defeated 32-18. Bailey Brown and Breanna Scott scored 6 each and Manaia Broom, Hannah Powell and Lilly Money had 2 each in the loss.

Austin said the Lady Greyhounds will provide a good test for her young squad, which returns only two starters from a year ago.
“They’re not as fast as they usually are,” Austin said of the Greyhounds, “so we feel like if we can put a little pressure on the ball, if we play our game and get the shots we want offensively – that’s our gameplan. Because (Marmaduke) is going to score. We’ve got to put pressure on them, and we’ve got to turn around and answer.”
