United Auto Workers Retirees to meet

The United Auto Workers Retirees will meet at 11:15 a.m. Thursday at the Bonanza Restaurant in Pocahontas.

Please bring your non-perishable foods for the annual food drive.

American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary to meet

The Paragould American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Legion Hall is located at the corner of West Court Street and U.S. Highway 49.

Collins Theater to host ‘Island Fire’ concert


The Collins Theater will host a Samoan Tsunami benefit relief concert at 7:30 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Sunday. Island Fire, from Branson, will perform.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, $10 for students and children under 3 are free.

Craft fair to be at community center today

The Paragould Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual Harvest Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the community center. There will be about 40 vendors, both local and from the surrounding area, on hand with arts and crafts for sale. The first 100 kids to attend will be able to make their own free craft at the kids’ booth. Admission is free and there will be several door prizes offered. Call the community center at 239-7530 for more information.

Fall Harvest beauty pageant set

The Piggott High School FCCLA will host its third annual fall harvest pageant at 2:30 p.m. today at Piggott High School (middle gym). The registration fee is $20. The pageant is open to kids ages birth to age 18. Contestants 0-4 will dress in Sunday wear only. Contestants ages 5-18 will dress in formal wear.

Alzheimer support meeting set

The East Arkansas Area Agency on Aging will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the EAAAA conference room. This support group focuses on the everyday issues that caregivers of Alzheimer’s disease encounter with their client or family member.

Junior Auxiliary host ‘Catfish & Khakis’

The Junior Auxiliary will host its “Catfish & Khakis” fund-raiser from 7 p.m. to midnight Nov. 14 at the Atkins Celebration Hall. The money raised will go to support hundreds of children in Greene County.

Festivities will include music from Tragikly White, a live and silent auction, catfish with all the fixings prepared by Simply Delicious Catering and big screens set up for the Razorbacks game. Ticket prices will be $50 per couple or $175 for a table of eight.

Calligraphy class set downtown

A calligraphy class will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Art Gallery, located on North Pruett Street next to the Red Goose Deli, in downtown Paragould.

Joyce Ellen Hoskins will be instruct the class, and the charge will be $50

per student.

2010 MG training scheduled

The 2010 Master Gardner training classes are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 30-Feb. 27, 2010 at the Craighead County Extension office in Jonesboro. Class size is limited and the registration deadline is Jan. 16. The cost of the class will be $65. For more information about the program or to request an application, contact the Greene County Extension Office at 236-6921.

ASU-Paragould will host open house

Arkansas State University-Paragould will host an open house from 1-6 p.m. Thursday at the campus, located at 2411 W. Kingshighway in Paragould. The open house is an opportunity for students to register for spring 2010 classes as well as for the community to tour the facilities. National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week

Mayor Mike Gaskill will proclaim Nov. 15-20 for local observation of National Hunger and Homelessness Week in Paragould. Events are scheduled all week long, including a community-wide fasting day Nov. 16 and a canned food drive Nov. 20 at city hall.

Operation ‘Christmas Child’ set

Operation Christmas Child will be collect shoe box gifts Nov. 16-23 at East Side Baptist Church. Shoe box gifts involve packing a shoe box with personal care items, school supplies, toys, hard candy, games, socks and other items. Individuals are also encouraged to put a note in the box to share a personal message with the child who will receive the gift. A gospel message is also included with each shoe box.
