A woman was injured Tuesday after her mobile home caught fire and she struggled to escape to the porch.
Sixty-two-year-old Margaret Funderbird was lifted off of her porch and to safety by father and son Donald and Justin Bogard, who live in an adjacent mobile home at 1126 State Highway 135 N.
“She was screaming ‘help,’ but she can’t hardly talk,” 18-year-old Justin Bogard said. “I said, ‘what’s that noise?’ I looked out the window and saw the smoke.”
“I told my son, I said ‘help me’ and we grabbed her arm and lifted her,” Donald Bogard said.
Justin Bogard said the woman was “smoking” as they carried her away. He said her skin and hair was burned and her clothes had “melted.”
Lt. Phillip Russell of the Paragould Fire Department said the cause remained undetermined as of press time. He said Funderbird’s condition is unknown and that she had been transferred out of Arkansas Methodist Medical Center to an undisclosed facility.
