Free throws help Lady Hounds win road game

MARKED TREE — The Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds sank 12 of 14 free throws in the final period to seal a 53-42 conference win over Marked Tree on Friday night.

With the win, Marmaduke improved to 11-2 and kept pace with Buffalo Island Central in the district race. MHS visits BIC, which knocked off league leader East Poinsett County on Thursday, on Monday night.

Whitley Boggs hit 5 of 5 fouls shots in the last period to help ward off the Lady Indians. Boggs finished with a team-best 23 points.

Jessica Lee also hit in double digits with 10 points, Cally Price had seven, Jessica Boggs scored six, Anna Best hit four and Alexus Jones netted three for Marmaduke (27-4).

In the junior high game, Marmaduke (24-5, 11-1) blasted Marked Tree 52-14 as Shelby Blackburn and Abby Meredith scored 12 points each.

Madison Price added six, Cally Burgess hit four, Sidnee Bopp got three and Kara Lee, Patience Bynum, Jodi Davis and Whitney Bishop had two each.


Nelson, Rams win at Batesville

Chase Nelson scored as many points as the Paragould Lady Rams’ opponent Thursday as PJHS defeated Batesville 37-14 in junior girls’ conference action.

Nelson finished 14 points to lead the Junior Lady Rams, who improved to 18-1 overall, 6-1 in conference.

Abby Gibson contributed five points and four assists for PJHS while Braxton Burnside had five points and three assists, Korie Bryant got four points and five rebounds, Katelyn Price and Kristen Pattillo added three each and Tate Preston and Deborah Pratt put in two each.

Paragould also won the junior B girls game 19-10, improving to 9-1 on the year.

Karlee Midgett led the Rams with 10 points. Ally Turpin added three and Madison Beasley, Sydney Walker and Tori Hardin put in two points each.

Paragould made it a sweep on the night by defeating Batesville in the junior boys’ game.

PJHS boys 40, Batesville 28

Jed DaVault scored a team-high 17 points and the Rams never trailed after moving out to an early 10-3 lead.

Paragould led 17-7 at halftime. It was 26-14 entering the last period.

In addition to DaVault’s 17, Matt Paynter added seven, Scotty Ward and Dylan Hoggard had five each, Ty Gibson scored four and Drew Crawford two.

In the eighth-grade game, Paragould beat Batesville 31-20 as Brandon Clifford put in 12 points.

Jakob Sullinger added seven, Deandre Cullins got five, Hunter Williams four, Seth Cox three and Jacob Penny one.

GCTJHS girls cruise by Forrest City

FORREST CITY — Blakely Adams scored 13 points and Rachel Gramling added 10 as Greene County Tech picked up a 43-26 road win over Forrest City on Thursday.

With the win, GCT moved to 6-1 in 5A-East play and remained locked in a first-place tie with Nettleton and Paragould.

Courtney Cates chipped in with seven, Josie Fletcher had four, Blair Metheny had three, Mackenzie Cox two and Kassie Tyner one.

Tyner’s eight points led Tech in an eighth-grade win over the Mustangs.

Colbie McPherson added seven, Kelsey Maxwell hit four, Lori Haralson got three and Adams, Addison McCreless, Cox and Gabrielle Krumholtz two each.
