Black River opts out of campus gun law

Posted: Saturday, June 8, 2013 6:00 am

The Board of Trustees of Black River Tech voted unanimously to opt out of the new guns on campus law at a meeting on their Pocahontas campus Friday.

A bill that allows faculty and staff at Arkanas colleges to bring concealed carry weapons became law in late February, but the bill featured an amendment that allowed each Arkansas college or university to opt out annually for allowing faculty and staff the concealed carry option on campus. Schools have 90 days after the recently-ended legislative session to decide before the bill goes into effect.
