MHS' Mays selected to All-Star squad

The accolades keep pouring in for Marmaduke's Jordan Mays.

After earning the Daily Press All-County Player of the Year award as well as all-state and all-district honors, Mays was selected to the Arkansas Activities Association's girls' East team in the upcoming All-Star game.

The senior led her Lady Greyhounds to the second round of the state tournament this season along with a stellar 32-11 record. She averaged 11.9 points per game and led Marmaduke in steals and assists.

Mays will be coached by Pocahontas' Harlan Davis in the game. Hoxie's Mike Chipman, Marion's Shunda Johnson and Bay's Braden Watson were all selected as assistants.

Other local athletes selected to Mays' teams are Pocahontas' Ashlyn Ellis and Kristen Wiseman along with Batesville's Hannah Qualls.

Marion's Jakyya Clay and Marie Hunter were also chosen to be a part of the East squad.

As for the boys, Jonesboro's Ben Harvey and Marquis Eaton were both selected to the East team. Bay's Taylor Layne, Earle's BJ Murray, East Poinsett County's Xzavier Reed and Riverside's Gavin Stone were also picked.

Jonesboro head coach Wes Swift will coach the boys' East team.

The 62nd All-Star basketball games will be played at Jeff Farris Center on the UCA campus on June 22nd with the girls game beginning at 6 p.m. and the boys game immediately following.
