BLYTHEVILLE — The Arts Council of Mississippi County is pleased to present “Side Street Steppers” in concert on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m.
The program will be on stage at Adams/Vines Recital Hall at Arkansas Northeastern College, 2501 S. Division in Blytheville. This is part of the Arts Council 2022-2023 Series. Advance tickets are available at Arkham Comics and Used Books at 514 W. Main in Blytheville for $20 and tickets will be available at the door the evening of the program for $25. ANC, Students, Faculty And Staff can receive a discount. Children 12 and under are admitted free with an adult for all Arts Council Series events.
The “Side Street Steppers” are a page from America’s past, playing rare and popular music from the 1920s and ‘30s. Dubbed the Golden Age of Gramophone Recording, the two decades between 1920 and World War II saw the rise of jazz and the birth of the blues, the demise of ragtime and the emergence of hillbilly music, which would become known throughout the world as country music. The “Side Street Steppers” present a mashup of this transformation of the American musical landscape, performing on vintage and homemade instruments. Get ready for plenty of hip-shaking, foot stompin’, caterwauling and croonin’. Bring a friend to share the fun.
Additional programs scheduled for 2022 include a fun family Halloween Classic Double Feature at the ANC Amphitheater on Saturday, Oct. 29. “Nashville Legacy” featuring the music of Floyd Cramer and Chet Adkins will be Saturday, Nov. 19, and Jubilation Jazz Holiday Celebration will follow on Friday, Dec. 9. Also, planning for programs for 2023 is ongoing. Programs presented by the Arts Council of Mississippi County will be at Adams/Vines recital hall unless indicated otherwise.
