The piano, vocal and violin students of Lillian White, Harmony Fortson and Aria Bella Fortson performed April 29 in two separate recitals at Arkansas State University’s Fine Arts Recital Hall in Jonesboro.
Awards were presented for hours practiced, books completed, total years in piano, greatest progress and outstanding practice. Festival Gold Cup winners were also recognized as well as a graduating senior.
The National Federation of Music Clubs is the largest nonprofit organization in America, promoting and supporting American music, performers and music education.
Junior Festival is sponsored by this group at the local level through the Arkansas Federation of Music Clubs and the Treble Clef Club of Jonesboro. The annual event involves an adjudication of two memorized selections, based on all facets of performance – rhythm, dynamics, interpretation and more.
A minimum of 15 accumulated points (5 being the highest possible) must be accrued for a Gold Cup. Out of 34 total entries, White’s students earned 30 Superiors and 3 Gold Cups.
Following the program, refreshments were served for family and friends. The event was free and open to the public.
