Neighboring Craighead County returned to the top five list of counties with the most new cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
According to the Arkansas Department of Health, there were 1,308 new cases.
The top counties with new cases were: Washington, 161; Pulaski, 130; Benton, 70; Sebastian, 64; and Craighead, 63.
As of Monday there were 16,485 active cases and 861 hospitalized. Forty-two deaths from the virus were added on Monday for a total of 2,225 deaths from the virus in Arkansas since the pandemic began.
The state’s total number of cases has been 134,348 with 105,468 recoveries.
“The new cases are higher than last Monday, and this may be an indication we are in for a tough week ahead,” Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson said in a prepared statement on Monday. “The 42 new deaths is regrettably an all-time high in a single day. While there is good news on the vaccine front this morning, we have to work together to reduce cases, hospitalizations and save lives.”
Arkansas Department of Health statistics for Greene County on Monday showed there have been 2,228 total cumulative COVID-19 cases, 409 of them currently active. There have been 1,793 recovered cases in the county, and 26 deaths.
