Greene County’s sales tax boom continues, but what the state returns to it fell last month.
“The countywide 1-cent sales tax generated $615,000 in November 2021,” County Treasurer Debbie Cross told the December meeting of the Greene County Quorum Court. “That’s 5.08 percent more than for the same month last year.”
The gross sales tax revenue generated in Greene County for November, $614,951, outstripped November 2020’s $585,229. The total sales tax collected in the county since the beginning of 2021 through the end of November likewise exceeded that of the same period last year by 12.95 percent. The trend of increasing gross sales tax revenue compared to that of the same month in the preceding years stretches back to January 2020.
But, the county’s total in turnback funds for November dropped compared to the preceding November. “In November of ’21 we received $180,000,” Cross said, “which is 3.3 percent less than November of last year. And that is strictly due to the change in the census numbers.”
