Greene County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested John David Shane Jones, 44, of rural Paragould, on a charge of one count of second-degree domestic battery, a Class C felony.

According to a probable cause affidavit sworn by Detective Sgt. Don Crittenden of the department’s Criminal Investigation Division, the arrest occurred in connection with a Nov. 15 incident, which saw deputies dispatched to Jones’ residence regarding a domestic battery.

As the deputies were en route, they received word the suspect had left the location. They made contact with Jones at a second location.

For his part, Jones denied having done anything wrong. He told the deputies that his ex-wife and his girlfriend were at his residence, and that they’d started to argue. Jones said he’d asked both to leave, but that his ex-wife had refused. He told the deputies he then picked her up in a bearhug-type maneuver and sat her to the side of his truck. Jones said she had slid down the side of the truck into a seating position and started complaining of a broken arm.

According to Crittenden’s affidavit, Huffstetler contacted Jones’ ex-wife by telephone. She reportedly told him she was headed to the Emergency Room for what she believed was a broken wrist. She came to the Sheriff’s Department on Nov. 17 to give a formal statement, and confirmed her wrist was broken.

Jones was released from the Greene County Detention Center Nov. 18 on a $10,000 cash bond.
