A child’s trip to an area hospital has resulted in the arrest of the father on felony charges.
Police arrested Daniel Garcia, 34, of Paragould, on a charge of one count of second-degree domestic battering, a Class C felony.
According to a probable cause affidavit sworn by Detective Cpl. Tron Beesley of the department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID), the arrest occurred as the result of a Nov. 23 notification to both CID and the Arkansas State Police’s Crimes Against Children Division.
The two agencies learned from St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro of a 3-year-old victim with a laceration to the upper lip. Medical staff at that facility reportedly informed investigators that the laceration was bad enough that the child needed stitches.
Investigation revealed that the incident had occurred in Paragould, with the father (Garcia) being identified as a suspect in the offense. During an interview before which he was advised of his rights to remain silent and to have an attorney present during questioning, Garcia reportedly gave incriminating statements according to the affidavit.
Garcia was booked into the Greene County Detention Center on Nov. 24. He is being held there on a $10,000 cash-only bond.
