The Greene County Tech School board has approved on its first reading a $1,100 monthly pay increase for its certified staff for the 2021-22 school year.

According to GCT Superintendent Gene Weeks, the base pay for certified staff with bachelor’s degrees is now $34,900 annually, while for those with master’s degrees it is $39,550. “The bachelor’s tops out at $45,900,” Weeks said, “and the master’s tops out at $52,270.”

Total cost to the district is expected to be $587,426.76, of which the district is to receive a one-time grant of $244,693.66 to offset the cost.

“This new salary schedule will meet the new minimum requirements set in place by House Bill 1146 [i.e. Act 286] of the 92nd General Assembly Regular Session, 2019,” Weeks said.

The board also approved the first and second readings of revisions to its policy regarding purchases of commodities and procurement. The old policy, according to Weeks, called for “a preference [to] be given to minority and women’s business enterprise, and labor surplus area firms.” The new policy calls for “takes steps to assure that small, minority, and women’s business enterprises and labor surplus firms are used when possible.”

“This was changed after our audit visit,” Weeks said.

The district board approved bids of:

$3,000 from Crowley’s Ridge Academy to buy a 2008 36-passenger bus with 105,000 miles

$1,276 from Greg Wise for a 2003 passenger bus with 184,000 miles,

$2,550 from Phil Brinkley for a 2004 48-passenger bus with 163,000 miles.

The board also approved a contract disclosure form to allow the district to do business with Brittany Burlison, employed at Greene County Tech Intermediate School. The estimated amount of business for the entire year is less than $10,000. “They get decorations and classroom displays from her. This action will keep us in compliance with Act 1955 of 2001,” Weeks said.

Pamela Lyerly, from her Science Teaching position at Jr. High School, effective Dec. 31, 2020. This is for retirement purposes.

Leave of Absence

Kent Pieri, a Medical Leave of Absence, effective Oct. 19-Nov. 20, 2020.

Change of Assignment

Tausha Brown, from her current Resource Teaching position at Elementary to Self-Contained Teacher at Elementary, effective Nov. 20, 2020.

Shannon Pillow – Transfer from her current Self-Contained Teaching position at Intermediate to Resource Teacher at Elementary, effective Nov. 20, 2020.

Contract Adjustment

Kyleigh Horner – Transferred from her current Paraprofessional position at Elementary to Personal Care Paraprofessional in the Self-Contained Classroom at Elementary School, effective Nov. 30, 2020.
