A Craighead County man and a Greene County woman face several charges after Paragould police say they allegedly assaulted a man at a house earlier this year.
Matthew Lane Blevins, 27, of Lake City was arrested May 7 on suspicion of residential burglary, battery-3rd degree and endangering the welfare of a minor-3rd degree in the case.
Cheryl Leann Blevins-King, 24, of Paragould was also arrested May 9 on a warrant, alleging residential burglary, endangering the welfare of a minor-2nd degree and domestic battery-2nd degree in the case.
According to a probable cause affidavit, police responded April 2 to a disturbance with weapons at a house. Police found the victim bleeding from his head, with blood on his torso and face and two puncture wounds on his back.
The victim told police he and his child were watching television when Blevins and Blevins-King were there; and that neither were invited to the house, according to the affidavit.
The victim then said Blevins attacked him and they both fell to the ground. From there, the victim said Blevins held him down while Blevins-King kicked him in the ribs, hit him over the head with a fishing pole and hit him in the head nearly 30 times with a cordless drill, according to the affidavit.
Police later found the fishing pole, which was broken; and that the puncture wounds were on his left kidney and upper back.
Officers also said the child was close enough to the scene to have gotten blood on his shirt, the affidavit noted. The Department of Human Services later interviewed the child and the child corroborated the man’s statement to police, authorities said.
A $50,000 bond was set Monday for Blevins, who posted bond Monday evening, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office online jail roster.
He is set to appear in circuit court June 26.
Blevins-King was being held in the Greene County jail Wednesday, awaiting a court date in the case, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office online jail roster.
