POCAHONTAS — Patrolman Austin Hunter Matheny of the Paragould Police Department was one of 55 officers who successfully completed Basic Police Training Course 2020-BS at the BRTC Law Enforcement Training Academy in Pocahontas, Arkansas.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, graduation is was not open to the public but was live streamed on LETA’s Facebook page. Senator Jason Rapert of District 35 was the graduation guest speaker.

Graduates completed the thirteen-week, 593-hour course which included instruction in standard police tactics, firearms, legal, educational, technical skills, and practical exercises. In each course, emphasis is placed upon the officers achieving excellence in both academic subjects and firearms training. Each officer maintained an academic score of at least 70 percent on each examination, and consistently fired at least 80 percent during firearms training exercises to successfully complete all phases of the course.
