The Paragould City Council this week approved a request by a landowner to become part of the city as well as a deal to allow a company to haul certain recycled materials.
The council approved the annexation request by a 7-0 vote during its monthly meeting at the Paragould City Hall.
The request includes a house on 62nd Street, just off Highway 412 West near the BBQ Barn.
City officials said the request first went through the Greene County Court and was approved. The land will be part of Ward 4 for city council elections and the landowner will be offered PLWC water, electricity and internet service within three years.
Recycled materials
The council also approved a plan to allow Marck Recycling to haul certain recycled materials in the city.
Officials said the company wants to place dumpsters in the city for commercial recycling as well as doing some cardboard recycling. Paragould Mayor Josh Agee said the plan is voluntary and that the city would receive a 10 percent franchise fee on collections.
Also, another provider, Osceola Recycling, would be grandfathered in under the proposal.
Garbage collection
The council also approved a lease-purchase agreement with a central Arkansas company to get several pieces of equipment to collect garbage in the city.
The lease-purchase agreement, with River City Hydraulics of Sherwood, calls for the city to get three Heil 28-yard DuraPack Python automated collection body trucks with side arms, for $25,356.15 a month, and two Heil 5000 18-yard high compaction trucks with mounted rear-load for $12,088.22 a month.
Agee said the equipment will have an interest rate of 5.04 percent, that the agreement will lock in prices and that a lease-agreement allows the city to upgrade the equipment and fix the vehicles if there is a problem.
The trucks will not be purchased this year but will be part of next year’s budget, Agee said.
