JONESBORO — A Paragould woman was released Wednesday from the Craighead County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond after police say she raped a 12-year-old boy.
A detective with the Jonesboro Police Department was contacted in early August by the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division regarding the incident, according to the probable cause affidavit. In a forensic interview, the victim told investigators that Anna Brewington, 21, was a male family member’s girlfriend.
Brewington picked him up to visit another family member during the fall of 2019, the affidavit read. Because the family member wasn’t home, she took the boy to the McDonald’s on Red Wolf Boulevard for food and then to the Mall at Turtle Creek.
The boy told investigators that Brewington, then 20, performed oral sex on the boy in the parking lot, the document read. According to the online jail roster, she was arrested at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Following a discussion with the suspect’s legal representation, the police department agreed on a suggested $25,000 cash or surety bond for Brewington’s pre-trial release.
Due to the severity of the charges, District Court Judge David Boling set the $100,000 bond Wednesday on a suspicion of rape of a person under 14 years of age. A no-contact order was also enacted between Brewington and the minor victim.
According to the Arkansas penal code, sexual intercourse or “deviate sexual activity” with a person under 14 years old is rape. Rape is a Class Y felony punishable by 10-40 years or life imprisonment in an Arkansas Department of Corrections facility.
Brewington’s next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 27 at the Craighead County Courthouse, 511 S. Main St., Jonesboro.
