Police have charged a Paragould man in connection with the rape of an underage girl.
They arrested Aaron Lee Gottfried, 29, on a charge of three counts of rape, a Class Y felony.
According to a probable cause affidavit sworn by Detective Lt. Rhonda Thomas of the department’s Criminal Investigation Division, the arrest took place as the result of a Nov. 29 report received by the department regarding at least three incidents involving Gottfried and a girl under 14 years of age between May 2018 and November 2020.
According to Thomas’ affidavit, investigators interviewed the alleged victim on Nov. 29 regarding the report. At that time she reportedly told them of three acts that fit the legal definition of rape according to the statute.
The first, she said, took place the summer after her 6th-grade year, while the last took place last November. She reportedly named Gottfried as the perpetrator in each case. All the acts took place within the city limits of Paragould, and according to the affidavit, Gottfried would have been considered “a person of trust or authority” with respect to the statutory definition of rape.
Gottfried remains in the Greene County Detention Center on a $150,000 bond.
