An investigation is ongoing by school officials at Greene County Tech as to how a handgun was brought to school earlier this month by a student trying to sell it, school officials said.
The Greene County Tech School District said on Facebook Friday that law enforcement notified them Jan. 12 about the situation, which dealt with an investigation involving stolen property.
As part of the investigation, officials discovered that a GCT Jr. High student brought the handgun to school Jan. 6 with an intent to sell it and that money apparently changed hands in a transaction.
“The students involved have been removed from campus pending the police and school investigations. It is not believed that the gun was brought with the intent to threaten or harm any student or staff. The District is cooperating with law enforcement and conducting its own internal investigation,” Superintendent Scott Gerrish said in the Facebook post. “Safety of our students, faculty, and staff is always a top priority.”
