The Paragould Department of Public Works has announced trash pickup scheduled for Thursday has been canceled due to hazardous road conditions. Department deputy director Wayne Ellenburg announced that the Thursday pickup is now rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 13. Friday trash pickup will proceed as scheduled. "We will be out today and probably into the night to get the roads passable," he said.

As of 6:30 a.m. Thursday, the Paragould Police Department announced roads were extremely hazardous. "Currently, highways and city streets are covered with ice and sleet," the department said in a Facebook post. "This is making travel potentially treacherous. If you do not have to be out this morning, we advise you to remain at home. "

The department added that should the necessity arise to be on the roads due to work or an emergency, motorists should remember to reduce speed and avoid hard braking. "Allow yourself extra time to get to your destination," the post concluded.
