A Saturday morning collision has claimed the life of a Paragould man. According to the Fatal Crash Summaries web page of the Arkansas Department of Public Safety, Anthony L. Johnson, 38, died when his 2000 GMC Sierra crossed the centerline of Arkansas Highway 135 North at its junction with Clay County Road 238, striking a 2014 Freightliner head-on.
According to the report filed by Arkansas State Police Trooper 1st Class Jarrod Lyerly, the collision took place as Johnson’s vehicle was northbound on Highway 135 at 7:49 a.m. The Freightliner (the driver of which was not injured) was southbound on the highway when the collision occurred.
According to Lyerly’s report, the weather conditions were rainy and the road was wet. There was no indication in the report, however, that either weather or road conditions were a factor in the collision.
Johnson’s body was taken to the Clay County Coroner’s office on Piggott; his next of kin have been notified.
