Barbara Sue Stephens, 69, of Paragould, departed this life on April 2, 2021, after a wonderful life that richly blessed her family and friends. A celebration of life ceremony has been planned to honor Barbara on Thursday, April 8, at 5 p.m. at The Crossing in Paragould.
Barbara was born in Paragould on June 10, 1951, to the late Virgil William Cook and Virginia Irene Wilson Cook. She completed her GED at Hall Adult Education in Rockford, Ill., and Secretarial Certificate at Cotton Boll Vocational Technical School in Burdette. She worked a variety of roles from assembly line to secretarial roles.
Barbara (Cook) was married to her childhood sweetheart, Danny Stephens, on Feb. 27, 1967. They were married for 35 years, but were a couple for 37 years.
During their marriage, Danny and Barbara resided in Hoxie, Rockford, Marmaduke, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Umpire, Ark., where she last worked as a beloved janitor at Kirby High School. Once retiring, Barbara returned to Paragould, to reside with her extended family.
All through her life, she contributed greatly to the community by playing a mother/grandmother figure to countless in the community. Barbara made certain that all had a place to call home.
Barbara loved her family more than anything else. She consistently made it a priority to support her husband, children and grandchildren by putting their needs first. She always made her home a wonderful experience for her family and friends. She loved being outdoors, playing with all, including her four-legged babies, and chatting with everyone who crossed her path. Her joyous laughter and heart of gold was felt by all she encountered. She spent long periods of quality time with each of her grandchildren, even spending her summer months in Minnesota.
Barbara is survived by her sons: Greg Stephens and wife Kathy of Umpire, and Bruce Stephens and wife Tania of Lakeville, Minn.; brother, William E Cook of Paragould; sisters, Betty Adams and husband Larry of Paragould, and Louise Rogers and husband Randy of Paragould; stepbrothers, Eric Guinn and Bryan Guinn of Georgia; grandchildren, Garrett Stephens, Wayne and Kellie Epperly, Brandon Stephens and Caden Stephens; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Epperly, Gracie Epperly and Kaden Epperly; and many nieces and nephews, countless friends and people she adopted as family.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Danny Stephens; sisters, Mary Ann Bridges and Shirley Rogers; father, Virgil William Cook; mother, Virgina Irene Cook; stepfather Hanzel Guinn; and stepsister, Rita Walters.
