A phenomenal mother, wife, grandmother and friend, Shirley Ruth Hyde Baldwin received her wings on December 29, 2020 at the age of 82.
Shirley was born on September 19, 1938 in Paragould, AR to Henry & Willie Hyde. Shirley met the love of her life, Leon, in Paragould. Shirley and Leon married on June 19, 1954.
They travelled across the country in search of employment and settled in California. Their son, Mitchell, was born there. A lover of music, Shirley auditioned and was selected to sing and play guitar on Hee Haw but turned it down to raise her son. Their second child, Dana, soon joined the family.
From California, they moved east to St. Louis and found employment at GE. Working hard, they saved enough to purchase Gulf and Sinclair gas stations. In the late 1970s, Shirley & Leon came back to their roots, settling in Marmaduke. Together, they owned 2 gas stations, and started Leon’s Towing which is operated by their son today. They created a life anyone would be proud of.
Shirley & Leon were pillars of our community. Shirley’s outgoing and friendly personality were evident in all she did and with all she met. No one was a stranger for long; in fact, they were affectionately called “Mom” and “Dad” by a number of people and all knew there was always extra food and a safe place to stay if anyone needed it. Everyone she encountered was won over by her charm, compassion, zest for life, and love. This is a testimony to her life. She had a big heart and a door that was always open. Shirley had an unwavering faith in God and was a member of Center Hill Church of Christ. She set her mind to HIS commandants and encouraged others to do the same.
Shirley leaves behind her children Mitch & Tisha Baldwin, Dana & Dave Czzowitz, and son by heart, Marc & Lisa Siebert. Grandchildren: Shane & Simone Baldwin, Emily Baldwin, Chris Baldwin, Aidan Baldwin (Angel Lenderman), Ashley Czzowitz, Lyndsey Czzowitz, and Ryan Baldwin (Catherine Hankins). Great grandchildren: Brody Loggains, Kali Baldwin-Jeter, Abby Baldwin-Wilson, Raylee Baldwin, Gunner Cox, Hudson Baldwin, Baylor Maag-Baldwin, Eden Maag-Baldwin, Kynslee Lendermen, and Griffyn Baldwin. Donnie Baldwin (sister by heart), Michelle Sawyer (niece/daughter by heart) and her son Will Sawyer (grandson by heart).
Momma – Go Soar on the wings of Eagles, you don’t have to imagine anymore for you are finally home. Until we meet again, all our love. 1 Corinthians 15:50-57
