BOYS’ BASKETBALL

GCT 77, Nettleton 54

PARAGOULD – Greene County Tech controlled the second half Friday night to defeat Nettleton 77-54 in the 5A-East conference opener for both senior boys’ teams.

The Eagles (8-1, 1-0 conference) outscored the Raiders 26-12 in the third quarter, building a 60-40 lead. Israel Malone scored 18 points and Brandon Anderson added 11 for Nettleton (5-6, 0-1).

Brookland 39, Valley View 37

BROOKLAND – Tyler Parham made two free throws with 18 seconds remaining in Thursday night’s game to seal Brookland’s 39-37 victory over Valley View in 4A-3 senior boys’ basketball.

Parham’s free throws gave the Bearcats (7-1, 3-0 conference) a four-point lead, offsetting a last-second basket by the Blazers (5-4, 1-2 conference).

Parham scored 13 points and David York added 10 for Brookland. After the teams played to a 14-14 tie in the first quarter, Brookland led 26-24 at halftime and 30-28 at the end of the third quarter.

CJ Delancy finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for the Blazers.

Connor Tinsley added 14 points and five rebounds for Valley View, while Caleb Allen grabbed seven rebounds.

Brookland improved to 3-0 in conference play with a 34-32 victory in the junior boys’ game, led by Cole Kirby with 10 points, Briar Allred with nine and Ben Jackson with eight. Brian Huff scored 10 points and Drew Gartman added nine for Valley View (8-2, 2-1 conference).

BIC 54, Rector 47

RECTOR – Jesse Kinard made five of six free throws in the final two minutes Friday to help seal Buffalo Island Central’s 54-47 victory over Rector in 2A-3 senior boys’ basketball.

Jaron Burrow scored 22 points to lead the Mustangs (7-8, 3-2 conference). Kinard added 19 points and Caden Whitehead grabbed 10 rebounds for BIC, which led 25-17 at halftime and 39-28 after the third quarter.

Cooper Rabjohn scored 16 points and Trey Horton added 12 for Rector.

BIC (10-3, 4-0 conference) used balanced scoring and 12 rebounds from Riley Whitehead for a 42-13 victory in the junior boys’ game.

Corning 63, Hoxie 44

CORNING – Corning opened a double-digit lead in the third quarter Thursday and went on to defeat Hoxie 63-44 in 3A-3 senior boys’ basketball.

The Bobcats (5-3, 2-2 conference) led 25-18 at halftime and 43-29 at the end of the third quarter. Jayden Wiedeman scored 16 points to lead Corning, followed by Cyle Briney with 13, Colby Briney and Parker Davis with 10 each, and Cade Briney with nine.

Daylon Powell scored 15 points for Hoxie (1-1, 0-1 conference).

Corning won the junior boys’ game 58-29.

Piggott 76, Maynard 65

MAYNARD – Shawn-Hudson Seegraves scored 25 points Thursday to lead Piggott to a 76-65 victory over Maynard in senior boys’ basketball.

Nate Brantley added 18 points and Ethan Ralph finished with 13 for the Mohawks. James Vandergriff scored 24 points to lead Maynard.

Sloan-Hendrix 81, CRA 61

PARAGOULD – Cade Grisham scored 25 points Friday night to lead Sloan-Hendrix to an 81-61 victory over Crowley’s Ridge Academy in senior boys’ basketball.

Braden Cox added 12 points for the Greyhounds. Sloan-Hendrix led 36-19 at halftime and 58-41 after the third quarter.

Will Layne scored 21 points for CRA (0-5). Kayden Trout and Jake Tillery added nine points each, followed by Jace Elms with eight.

Sloan-Hendrix won the junior boys’ game 72-35. Jesse Beliew scored a game-high 22 points for CRA.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

GCT 51, Nettleton 49

PARAGOULD – Brooke Barnes made a contested layup with three seconds remaining in Friday night’s game to lift Greene County Tech to a 51-49 victory over Nettleton in the 5A-East opener for both teams.

Carleigh Hollis added 18 points for the Lady Eagles (8-2, 1-0 conference). GCT led 17-13 after the first quarter before Nettleton pulled into a tie at 28 at halftime. The Lady Eagles, who shot 15-of-25 from the field, led 39-37 after the third quarter.

Briley Pena finished with 19 points and five assists for Nettleton (7-3, 0-1). Wakiryah Daniels added 14 points, while Akyria James grabbed eight rebounds.

Hoxie 75, Maynard 41

MAYNARD – Jaedyn and Jaecie Brown combined for 51 points Thursday to lead Hoxie to a 75-41 victory over Maynard in 3A-3 senior girls’ basketball.

Jaedyn Brown finished with 28 points and nine rebounds, while Jaecie Brown added 23 points and 11 assists for Hoxie (6-0). Ellery Gillham and Cara Forrester scored 10 and eight points, respectively.

Madeline Jones scored 13 points and Amanda Nelson added 11 for Maynard.

Hoxie won the junior girls’ game 41-24.

Manila 61, Rivercrest 38

MANILA – Olivia May connected for seven 3-pointers Thursday night as she scored 25 points during Manila’s 61-38 victory over Rivercrest in 3A-3 senior girls’ basketball.

Sadie McDonald added 15 points and Madison Hitchcock finished with 13 for Manila (8-2, 1-2 conference). The Lady Lions led 32-21 at halftime and 47-36 after the third quarter.

Manila won the junior girls’ game 37-21. Madysen Deeds scored 16 points to lead Manila.
