CONWAY — Paragould senior golf standout Madison Holmes will play for Central Arkansas after signing with the Bears last month.
Holmes is a four-time Class 5A all-state selection who finished at or near the top of the leaderboard in each of the last three state tournaments. She was also second in this year’s Overall state tournament.
“We were very happy Madison had her sights set on Central Arkansas,” UCA head coach Natasha Vincent said in the school’s announcement of Holmes’ signing. “From our first call, her maturity and knowledge of the game were impressive.
“Our program prides itself in development and with her work ethic and personality, it was a no-brainer to sign her up. We are excited to see how she will make those around her better with her love for the game, and her drive to become the best version of herself.”
Holmes won the 2018 Class 5A state tournament by six strokes when she shot a 74 at Hot Springs Country Club. She finished her sophomore season with an eighth-place finish in the Overall tournament.
As a junior, Holmes finished second in the Class 5A state tournament after shooting 67 at Paragould Country Club. She placed fifth in the Overall tournament.
This year, Holmes and Jonesboro’s Caroline Hughes both shot 77 to tie atop the leaderboard in the 5A state tournament, with Holmes finishing second as Hughes won on the third playoff hole.
Holmes shot 79 in this year’s Overall tournament to tie for second, one stroke behind winner Grace Kilcrease of Springdale Har-Ber.
“Madison is the hardest worker that I have ever coached in any sport, male or female,” Paragould coach Jace Watson said. “Matched with her talent level, she has been one of the best golfers in the state. She set the bar for our lady golf program. UCA is getting a steal with her, and I can’t wait to see the success she will have at the next level.”
In addition to her state tournament success for the Lady Rams, Holmes was also a three-time medalist in the 5A-East conference golf tournament.
